Recto: surah al-Baqara (II, 255-56, complete). Epitap:h: hādhā qabr al-marhūm al-maghfūr 'alī (remainder undeciphered). Verso: surah Āl 'Imrān (III, 18-19 and 185, incomplete); Sahīh al-Bukhari 6416.. Epitaph: intqala min dār al-fanā ilá dār al-baqá al-'abd al-faqīr ilá Allāh ta'ālá abū al-husayn 'alī ibn 'uthmān ibn mufarrij ibn dará ibn 'alį al-farsī qaddasa Allāh (illegible last line would have carrried the date and word sana "year" is visible ).
# Inscription 1 : Epitaph started on last line of central panel appears to be a planning mistake and is truncated: hādhā qabr al-marhūm al-maghfūr 'alī (remainder undeciphered).. Complete epitaph found on the verso of the stone.Date of death illegible due to weathering Akbarnia (2018) but stylistic dating ca. 1300-1340 CE, perhaps earlier.
The British Museum website erroneously suggests 15th century. Calligraphy and carving are typical of Khambhat ca. 1300-1340 CE. An early dating is most likely given the writing style and the fact that the mihrab motifs are experimental and thus, possibly as early as 1280s. Compare flat relief carved lamp motif to 685/1287 headstone of ‘Ali al-Yazdi (Desai 1961, 19-22, insc. VIII, Plate IV)
Donated to the museum in 1840 by the merchant company Messrs Newman, Hunt & Christopher

Epitaph begins on last line of one side and seems to run out of room, it begins afresh on the other side.
