Constant Hamès is a former researcher and professor at CNRS-EHESS. He was responsible for the CNRS research network “Magie et écriture islamique” (2000-2003) which led to the publication of the collective work Coran et talismans. Textes et pratiques magiques en milieu musulman. He also directed with Alexandre Popovic a seminar entitled “La magie chez les musulmans balkaniques et dans le monde musulman” at IISMM-EHESS from 2004 to 2012. His current book project, entitled Corans manuscrits d’Afrique. Sémiologie graphique et identités culturelles, is to be published in 2023. Constant Hamès is the author of many articles about manuscripts from Sub-Saharan Africa, including “Sura Headings and Subdivisions in Qur’an Manuscripts from Sub-Saharan Africa: Variations and Historical Implications” published in Journal of Qur’anic Studies (Volume XV, issue 3, 232-252) in 2013.
