Born in 1970, Mouhamadou Moustapha Seck is a Senegalese visual artist based in Dakar who explores calligraphy through diverse materials, specializing in writing calligraphy on mirrors, a technique he refers to as lithophany. Moustapha Seck has presented his works at the Musée Théodore Monod and at the Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art. His artistic practice is accompanied by a reflection on calligraphy as a factor of unity and identity within Islamic culture. His works feature Quranic verses, invocations of the names of Allah—emphasizing His oneness and incomprehensibility—and esoteric knowledge.
