Andrea Brigaglia

Andrea Brigaglia, professeur associé à l’Université de Naples, mène des recherches sur
l’histoire et l’anthropologie de l’islam en Afrique, notamment au Nigeria. Dans cet entretien,
il revient sur sa méthode de travail croisée, explique comment il a commencé à s’intéresser
aux écritures, et évoque les difficultés liées à l’étude de ces traditions. Il présente également
sa contribution au projet CallFront, à travers une approche ethnographique des traditions
calligraphiques islamiques dans l’Afrique contemporaine.

Andrea Brigaglia, Associate Professor at the University of Naples, conducts research on the
history and anthropology of Islam in Africa, with a particular focus on Nigeria. In this
interview, he reflects on his cross-disciplinary working method, explains how he began
working on scripts, and discusses the difficulties involved in studying these traditions. He also
presents his contribution to the CallFront project through an ethnographic approach to Islamic
calligraphic traditions in contemporary Africa.
